A pressure washer in the wrong hands strips paint, drives water behind siding and etches concrete permanently. Most of this job is knowing when not to use one.
How we approach it
Hard surfaces — concrete drives, walks, patios — take real pressure and come up dramatically. Siding, painted wood, older decks and anything with a seam get soft washed instead: low pressure and a cleaning solution that does the work chemically, then a rinse.
We test an inconspicuous patch first on anything we haven't cleaned before, and we cover plantings near the work. Green algae on a north-facing wall will come back eventually — that's biology, not a bad clean — but it should be a couple of years, not a couple of months.
